Development of the inventory of hazardous materials (IHM)
With the International Convention on the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships being adopted recently, shipping companies are strongly recommended to start developing and maintaining the Inventory of Hazardous Materials.
The preparation of the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) is a fundamental requirement of the “Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships”, adopted in May 2009, as well as the regulation EU SRR 1257/2013. Upon entry into force, effective measures should be taken for reducing the risks posed to yard workers and the environment when the ship is recycled.
